Illustrative exercise
Explore three ways to revise a short internal instruction: put the action first, make the sentence direct and use a consistent term.
01 / Put the action first
As part of the planning process for next month’s update, comments on the draft are requested from the team by Friday.
Send your comments on the draft by Friday. We will use them to plan next month’s update.
Discussion: the action and deadline come first; the purpose follows. Confirm the date and who receives the comments before using the instruction.
02 / Keep terms consistent
Open the project summary. Add your comments to the briefing document and return the summary to the coordinator.
Open the project summary, add your comments and return it to the coordinator.
Discussion: this revision assumes all three references mean the same document. Confirm that assumption before removing a term or merging steps.
03 / Make review comments actionable
This paragraph is confusing. Please rewrite it.
Could the paragraph begin with the action and deadline? That would help readers identify what they need to do before reading the background.
Discussion: name the specific issue, suggest a change and explain its purpose. Leave room to confirm the author’s intent.
01 / One focused session
One writing challenge, explored together.
02 / Two connected sessions
Build a shared approach through guided practice.
03 / A three-part series
Work through structure, clarity and consistency.
Indicative fees in Canadian dollars for one team learning in English. Each session includes guided practice and group feedback. Document limits cover all supplied excerpts used to tailor the exercises. Programme revision rounds are consolidated comments on the proposed agenda and materials before delivery. Preparation starts after scope approval and receipt of all materials; time waiting for your review is additional. Live session dates are agreed separately, subject to availability. Delivery uses a mutually agreed video meeting platform; no meeting software is embedded in this site. The written quote confirms the total fee, any applicable taxes, payment terms and schedule. Individual manuscript editing, recordings, translation, certification, travel and venue hire are outside these packages.
